You may also copy some or all of the online, but if you do please submit a link to us. These study notes contain outlines, cross-references, Bible study discussion questions, lessons to learn, and applications. And they pleaded with the people not to rebel against the LORD.For the last fifteen years, I have led weekly inductive Bible studies for groups of college students and young adults. Isn’t it amazing how quickly we want to turn back when things get a little difficult? God promised He would give them a land that flowed with milk and honey, but when it looked like it might be difficult to take the land, they just wanted to go back to Egypt, where they had been slaves.īut Joshua and Caleb stood up and attempted to encourage the people to trust in the LORD, saying that the land is a good land, and that the LORD delights in us, and He will give us the land. By the next day they had made a decision to appoint a new leader to take them back to Egypt. The People RebelledĪnd, as the story continues into Numbers chapter fourteen, the people lifted up their voice and cried, and they wept all night long. And so, an argument ensued between him and the other ones who had given the bad report. Conflicting Reportsīut Caleb, who was one of the men who searched out the land, stood up and exhorted the people to go up at once and possess the land, for, he said, we are well able to overcome it. And they reported that the land was indeed a good land that flowed with milk and honey, but, unfortunately, the people of the land were, in their humble opinion, far too strong to overcome. The reference to Psalm 95:7-11 made in Hebrews 3:8-12 was, in Psalm 95, referring to the story that unfolded in Numbers chapter thirteen and fourteen, in which Moses sent out twelve men to search out the land of Canaan to see what kind of land it was, if it was a good land, if it was fortified, and so forth, and to bring back a report to the people.Īfter forty days the twelve spies came back to bring a report to Moses and the people. ![]() It would be good to talk a lot about this portion of scripture, but at this time we will just give a very brief overview.
